She's 4!!!

I can't believe our cute girl is 4 years old today!! It seems like just yesterday she looked like this...

She has been such a fun girl and we love how she spices up our lives! NEVER a dull moment with this spunky little diva!!

The last month...

February flew by. Things were pretty crazy with me working 3 nights in a row but things went just fine as we knew they would, there were very few break downs thankfully!
We started out the month by squeezing one last tubing trip in. Peyton's friend had a fun sledding party and we were introduced to an awesome hill! We got some new tubes for the kids but it was pretty dark when we got there. We didn't get a lot of pictures but we had a ton of fun!

Bailey had her tonsils out on February 4. The surgery part went well but because of her age we had to stay overnight at Primary Children's. Her pain was pretty bad and we weren't too surprised by her reaction to it, poor thing. The night at the hospital was a crazy one filled with much crying and discomfort for Bailey. She went into surgery at about 12:30pm that day. After the surgery she was barely making it 3 hours before she would be writhing in pain, which was a problem because she could only have the Lortab every 4 hours! The last hour was spent unsuccessfully trying to distract her. At one point she had pain meds at 9:00 then at 10:00pm she was screaming so bad saying it hurt. The more she would scream the more her poor throat would hurt, it was an endless cycle! Knowing that she had another 3 hours before she could have anything we begged the nurse to call the Dr. and see if she could give her something else. She came back and said they could give hr Benedryl, better than nothing I guess, except for the fact that the Benedryl and Lortab combination made Bailey's oxygen levels drop all night! Needless to say I didn't sleep much because I kept needing to move the blow by (a funnel that blows oxygen into her face) so it was pointing at her face since she kept moving!
Her recovery (the next 2 weeks) was just as rough. For almost 2 weeks she needed the Lortab every 4 hours, sometimes we would barely make it 4 hours! The day was pretty predictable including at least one crying spell that would lead to vomiting due to a very sore throat and gagging. As expected, we also dealt with the result of narcotics added to decreased fluid intake which is constipation, that was super fun for cute, innocent little Bailey who slapped me in the face after I nicely announced to her that I was going to do 1 last glycerin suppository (the last of 3, which didn't end up working anyway:( ). Good times, glad that's over with! Most importantly we had a lot of great, very kind family who were willing to help out with Bailey since she couldn't go to daycare for 2 weeks but I still had to precept. Thanks Betsy, Jenny, and MeeMaw!

Dan and Peyton gave Bailey and I these beautiful roses for Valentines Day. The red roses were for me and the pink were for Bailey. What sweet boys we have!

Precepting turned out to be an ok experience. I didn't get my first choice of specialties, or my second, or my third, well, actually I didn't get any of my choices at all but at least I got a good preceptor. I was at David Hospital (not my choice either) on the Women's Surgical GYN unit and also did about 1/3 of my shifts on Postpartum. I learned a lot about piggy backing antibiotics, PCA pumps and meds, hysterectomy's, bladder slings, and postpartum care, removed a whole lot of Foley's and checked dozens of fundus'. All interesting in their own way but not really something I would like to spend my nursing career doing. I may have liked an experience with labor and delivery since it provides a little more action and my experience in that specialty is very limited but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Anyway, I'm glad that's over and now I am back to working for $ which is always nice!

Last but not least, today we finally got Bailey's hair cut. If you remember she was quite the hair twister as an infant and can still be caught with her finger stuck in her hair. All the twisting made the left side of her head a little thin and bald in some spots. Her hair is growing back ok and the shortest spot is now almost to the top of her ear. We decided to try to even it out a little since the right side of her head had hair that is all the same length and fairly thick. It looks so much better now and you can barely notice the difference. She is getting to be so grown up, I just can't believe my baby is going to be 3 in 2 months!

Long time!!!

Sheesh, it's been a while since I last posted. I guess I'll just give an update.
To celebrate turning 5 Peyton had a birthday party with a million kids!! No really there were 16 kids there total (talk about chaos!) He had a blast playing with all his buddies and of course got a load of presents! Way too many if you ask me!
His cake turned out awesome, I bought this edible image from a company on ebay, he loved it.

After deciding we weren't going to put up lights on the house this year we put up our Christmas lights LOL! We just couldn't not do it, we knew the kids would love it and it brings so much Christmas cheer, we couldn't go without! We even got a new blow up of Mickey Mouse. The kids thought it was fun sitting on the roof with me (for 2 seconds each -Dan's idea!)

We got our tree from a tree farm called North Pole Pines in Farr West. It was a fun little place, you go and pick out your tree then cut it down. We went with Dan's older brother and his family, maybe it'll be a new tradition?? It only took us a little over a week to get the tree decorated!

Last week was MeeMaw's annual work client appreciation night where Santa comes. When Peyton saw Santa he ran and jumped in his arms. I overheard him telling Santa "remember that thing you brought me...that Robin toy? Well, I want a riddler and a penguin toy that goes with that toy set" Santa was awesome and played right along. Bailey on the other hand FREAKED OUT!! She didn't want anything to do with Santa. I finally convinced Dan (who is a softy for his baby girl) to take her and sit by Santa so I could get a picture. As you can see from the picture she wasn't too thrilled. After a minute she warmed up but still wouldn't agree to sit on Santa's lap. He was great with her and had her tell him about her list she had made.

My birthday was last Saturday. Check out the cute wrapping of the presents (Dan's idea). We went to breakfast at IHOP then shopping at Kohl's then Dan and I went on a date to his work Christmas party at the Timbermine (thanks Buffy for watching our crazy kids!) Dan hooked me up with a lot of cute clothes and a book (the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown). It's amazing how much more he knows me and knows what I like after 8 years of marriage!

Just a few things...

Today was Peyton's last soccer game. He had a good time playing for his first season. It was pretty frustrating for Dan and I because by the end of the season Peyton really just wanted to run around and fall on the ground, if the ball came near him he would give it a kick but that was pretty much it. He just isn't very competitive yet and you can't make someone be competitive, especially a 4 year old! He started out the season pretty aggressively but by the end he really just lost his drive. I'm sure as he gets older and understands the game more he'll be a pretty great player but until then Dan and I just need to watch, smile and cheer him on.

When I picked the kids up from daycare on Thursday they told me that a kid in Bailey's class had H1N1 so I knew that Bailey would probably get it. Sure enough a few hours later the fever started. I took her to the Dr. later that night and they did a rapid Flu A test (H1N1 is a strain of Flu A most everyone that tests positive for flu A have swine flu -at least right now). It was a 10 minute test and they came in after 2 minutes and said it was already showing Flu A positive! She has been pretty sick and miserable. 104+ temps ,tossing and turning all night and a nasty nose and cough. This morning her fever broke so hopefully she is on the down side of the illness. Yesterday I started having a cough and feeling yucky, today of course, it's worse. I'm still not as bad as she has been so that's good. Dan and Peyton are fine so far, so hopefully they wont be getting it.

The kids are so excited for Halloween. Peyton is going to be Darth Vader and Bailey is going to be Bat Girl. They would wear their costumes everyday if we would let them. It's going to be fun watching them since they actually know what is going on now.

Bailey's Idol...

I love watching Peyton and Bailey. They adore each other. He is so sweet with her (the majority of the time) and she bullies him to no end, and even though she is very independent wants to be exactly like him. She wants to sit where he sits, eat what he eats, play with whatever he is playing with, dress up like superheroes like he does, and she follows him around everywhere moving like him and mimicking most every word. She even poops in the potty when he does (but only then!) I can't get enough of them!

Boom Boom Pow

My kids LOVE the Black Eyed Peas song Boom Boom Pow. I caught this little clip of Bailey jamming in the car. Don't mind the curse word my kids are hoodlums, actually they have no idea it is a naughty word.

Gosh I love this girl!

Bailey is so positive, she is always saying things like "I like your hair mom" or "I like your shoes Peyton", coming from a 2 year old it sounds so silly because those seem like something an older person would say. A few weeks ago Bailey had emptied all the wipes from the container, Dan was lecturing her on why we don't do that (since she also occasionally empties the tissues from their box) the conversation went something like this...
Dan "Bailey, we don't empty the wipes, or the tissues out of the box"
Bailey "K"
Dan "it makes a mess and it is wasting"
Bailey "K"
Dan "I don't want you to do this anymore"
Bailey "K"
Dan "it's just not okay"
Bailey "K, I like your shirt Dad"
The lecture was over, how could you argue with a compliment!

The other night we had been doing some work in the yard and Dan gave the kids a bath. Since Dan was also planning on jumping in the shower he already had his shirt off when he got Bailey out of the bath. As he was getting her dressed she commented "I like your boobies Dad".
He politely thanked her.

Happy Birthday Bailey!

I can't believe my baby is already 2! She has been so fun to have in our home. She has such a fun, cute personality and I can't imagine life without her! It is so cute when she and Peyton laugh and play together, they really love each other. Bailey is also very strong willed. She is so competitive with her brother and insists on having the same privileges he does (even though she doesn't always win). It has been a very different experience then we had with Peyton when he was her age. She has taught us a lot! Bailey is a Daddy's girl, she asks for him each morning when I get her up, and she is so excited when he gets her up in the morning and when he comes home from work. Lately when I ask her how she got so cute, smart or funny she says "uh, because...Daddy" to every question. She says some of the cutest things, it has been so fun to have a girl, much better than I imagined.

We went to Park City from Friday to Saturday last week to stay at a hotel and celebrate her birthday. We had a great time swimming and hanging out as a family. She loved swimming with her "thloaties" (floaties), at first she was a little scared to let go but by the end of the night she was just bobbing around the pool. We walked around Main street (which felt like a ghost town) and ate dinner at a cute little pizza place. After dinner we headed back to the hotel stopping by the nearby Albertson's for some snacks. Peyton and Bailey slept on the bed together at the hotel, it was so cute to see them as they were getting tired and loopy, they were so silly and giddy. The next day we headed to the outlet mall on our way out of town. We only stopped at the Nike outlet then let the kids play on the playground because our feisty little princess was ready for her nap. It was good to get home early though, so we could clean up the house, do the grocery shopping and prepare for the Mother's day/birthday party on Sunday.

Sunday was fun, we had most of Dan's family over for a BBQ to celebrate Mother's day and May birthdays (Betsy and Bailey). It was fun to get together and Bailey had a great time with her cousins and opening her presents. Her MeeMaw (Dan's mom) gave her a cute Dora trike, she has been on it most of the day today. She also got some books and some clothes. This year when I asked her what kind of cake she wanted she would say "pink" so I decided to make her a pink flower cake. It actually turned out pretty good! I was impressed with my skills :)

Anyway, I just wanted to post about all the fun we have had. We love Bailey so much and we will definitely take her bad with her good, because her good is sure worth it!

New video...

Here's a better video of Bailey reading The Going To Bed Book. Notice her shirt, Peyton gave it to her for Christmas, I think it was a selfish gift but what do you expect from a 4 year old.
